The International Esports Federation (IESF) has announced it has added five new federations as its members.
As a result of the additions, the total number of members has risen to 151 and features representation from Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania.
The new federations joining the IESF are Equatorial Guinea, Botswana, the Central African Republic, Gabon, and Tanzania, marking its expansion into Africa. The IESF has revealed the federations will be taking part in its 2025 esports season which is the 17th season of competition it has hosted. Titles featuring throughout the season include Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, eFootball, PUBG Mobile, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
In a release, the IESF says the inclusion of the five new federations is thanks to its “mission to promote esports as a recognised and sustainable sport while providing platforms for athletes worldwide”.
The IESF is one of the largest esports-focused federations in the world. In January, it revealed that 136 nations had registered rosters to compete in tournaments during its 2025 season. The federation is yet to share details on when its season-ending World Esports Championship is taking place or its location.
Before the World Esports Championship takes place, the IESF’s esports competition is heading to Pristina, Kosovo for the European Esports Championship. Taking place from July 9th to 13th, 2025, the event will feature an open and all-female Counter-Strike tournament along with a Dota 2 event.
The addition of new federations into the IESF comes after it elected a new board and committee members in November 2024. The 16th Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) saw members accept or reject proposals while Germany, Canada, Malta, and Latvia earned Full Membership status.
“Welcoming these five nations into the IESF family is a proud moment for us,” said Boban Totovski, IESF Secretary General. “It reflects the continued expansion of esports and the dedication of national federations to provide opportunities for athletes and communities. We remain committed to supporting our members and working together to drive esports forward.”
