Marcel Menge has publicly announced the conclusion of his tenure at ESL FACEIT Group (EFG), bringing to a close more than 20 years with the company and stepping out of his most recent role as Senior Vice President of Engineering B2B.
Menge, who began his career in the early days of competitive gaming, played a key role in the growth of ESL and later EFG, helping expand the organisation from a 25-person start-up into a global company employing over 1,000 staff. Throughout his time at the company, he focused on developing technologies and platforms aimed at making esports more accessible and inclusive.
His departure from EFG occurred at the end of March 2025. Since then, Menge said in a LinkedIn post, he has taken a career break. While he is currently involved in personal projects, he has also indicated to be open to new professional opportunities.
Reflecting on his time at EFG, Menge expressed gratitude to several mentors and colleagues, including Jan-Philipp Reining and Ralf Reichert, who originally hired him in 2006; Heinrich Zetlmayer and Craig Levine, who supported his rise to Managing Director; and a long list of partners and teammates both within the company and externally, including collaborators at Sony PlayStation, which Mengel led a project with to bring competitive tournaments to the console.
Menge’s contributions were acknowledged by Ralf Reichert, now CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation, who praised him for helping to shape the backbone of modern esports. He is expected to attend upcoming industry events, including gamescom and the Esports World Cup, as he continues to engage with the global esports community.
