The Esports Radar has received proof that GAMURS Group, which owns a number of major websites across gaming, esports, and the wider entertainment sphere, has sold Dot Esports, one of its flagship products, to a buyer and for a fee that have not been disclosed.

The story was first published by Output Lag.

Dot Esports has long been considered one of the pioneers in esports journalism, with a number of the top names in its ranks over the years. While it became more of a broader gaming news website throughout its lifespan, it remained a well-known and well-respected brand in the games media space.

As of an announcement that was shared across the company on June 6 from CEO Riad Chikhani, Dot Esports was sold to an unnamed buyer that is “a longtime admirer” of the website.

The full announcement read:

“I want to share some important news: today, GAMURS has completed the sale of Dot Esports to a new owner. This is obviously huge news for both Dot Esports and GAMURS as a whole, so let me explain in more detail. The new owner is a private investor who is a longtime admirer of Dot Esports. Day-to-day operations will remain unchanged for now, and the team will be transitioning in full. The sale reflects Dot’s incredible brand value and leadership in the competitive gaming space.

“Dot has played a major role in GAMURS’ history. I’m proud of what we’ve built together and deeply appreciative of the talent, passion, and consistency that brought Dot to this point. The sale of Dot Esports allows us to focus on the future of GAMURS and demonstrates our commitment to investing in the future of gaming media, the Gen Z audience, and building brand and product experiences across multiple touchpoints and platforms. This move truly sets GAMURS up for our next chapter, and I’m so honored to have you with us along the way. Thank you for everything you do. I’m excited to see Dot thrive in its next phase, and I’m excited for the future of GAMURS.”

At the time of writing, this does not appear to affect the wider network of websites and properties owned by GAMURS. This includes The Mary Sue, Prima Games, Destructoid, and more, though a number of their owned properties have not had new content published for some time. The continuing of operations contrasts to the happenings at the recent case of Esports.net, which halted its content works upon acquisition.

In September 2022, GAMURS expanded its media portfolio by acquiring the likes of Upcomer, Operation Sports, Siliconera and others. Dot Esports had been acquired by the company in 2016.

In the years since, a number of Google algorithm updates, including the notable Helpful Content Update (HCU), have seen many gaming websites lose traffic and, in some cases, go defunct completely. GAMURS’ properties have struggled to varying degrees since those updates, including Dot, though the new buyer clearly sees potential in the website and the brand affinity that comes with it.
