Central Coast Studios Pty Ltd, a private Australian company, has revealed plans for a $260 million production hub on the New South Wales Central Coast that will bring film production, video game development and esports together in one place.
According to the details, the 70-acre Central Coast Studios site will be located less than 15 minutes from Sydney’s edge. A big part of the Central Coast Studios (CCS) project is its esports setup, which is built for live gaming events and broadcasts.
This means the same place can be used to make games, create videos, and also host esports tournaments. For example, a game could be developed there, its trailers and content made on-site, and then official esports events for popular titles like Counter-Strike, VALORANT, and Dota 2 could also happen in the same location.
The esports facilities will support live broadcasts, tournaments, and community events to make the Central Coast a hub for esports and gaming activity. As per the report, CCS expects the project to generate about $750 million in economic activity each year and create around 2,500 jobs at full capacity. These roles would include game developers, film crew, visual effects artists, esports event staff and technical specialists.
The company says the goal is to have everything in one connected system, where game development, content creation, and esports tournaments all happen together. This makes it easier for companies and event organisers because they don’t need to work across different cities or countries.
Josh Hallaran from Critical Games said better infrastructure like this could help attract international investment and create more jobs in New South Wales. However, it’s worth noting that the project is currently in the planning stage. The company claimed that if approved, it could become a major centre for both Australia’s screen industry and game development sector.
Beyond Central Coastal Studios’ big planned esports investment, others are jumping in too. The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is currently looking for donors to fund a new esports facility worth about $1.6 million. At the same time, Chinese org Chongqing Wolves has already opened a brand-new esports arena in Chongqing, with an investment of roughly 200 million CNY (around $27–28 million).
