South Korea will release a special commemorative postage stamp later this year to honor Lee Sang-hyeok, better known as Faker, a League of Legends and wider esports superstar.
The announcement was made by Korea Post, which operates under the Ministry of Science and ICT. The stamp is scheduled to be issued in October 2026 and will be part of a limited commemorative series.
Commemorative stamps in South Korea are released to recognise important people, events, or cultural achievements. This will be the first time that an esports or gaming figure has ever been featured on such a stamp in the country.
Faker’s selection is based on his long-standing impact on esports. He is widely known as the greatest player in League of Legends history. He began his professional career in 2013 and has played for T1 for over 13 years. In 2026, Faker signed a new four-year contract with T1, which will keep him with the team until 2029.
Earlier this year, on January 2, 2026, Faker also received the Cheongnyong Medal, the highest level of South Korea’s Order of Sports Merit. The award was presented by President Lee Jae-myung at an event held at Cheong Wa Dae. He is the first esports player in the country to receive this honor, which is usually given to Olympic medalists and top athletes in traditional sports.
He has won a record six World Championship titles, including his latest victory in November 2025 and also represented South Korea at the Asian Games in 2018 and 2023, helping bring more attention to esports.
Faker isn’t just collecting medals and stamps lately, he’s also being featured as a key part of Razer’s upcoming Project AVA AI companion. At the same time though, things haven’t been entirely smooth. In 2025, T1 took to social media to push back against the use of their star player’s image in political content, making it clear they’re not okay with that kind of association.
