GameSquare, the digital media company and holding behind FaZe Esports, has announced a partnership with the U.S. Army Installation Management Command to produce Soldier Showdown 8 (SS8).
Presented by financial services provider USAA, the cross-platform tournament series marks the eighth consecutive year of the military gaming initiative, which uses competitive entertainment “to build camaraderie and community among U.S. Army soldiers”.
The project brings GameSquare’s production infrastructure and corporate sponsorship network to one of the most established gaming programs within the armed forces.

Registration for the tournament officially opens on 25 June 2026, with competitive online qualifiers scheduled to run from July through October. This year’s iteration will put a distinct focus on two battle royale titles: Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone. The tournament format is open broadly to active-duty U.S. Army soldiers, the Army National Guard, Army Reserve, and any military members stationed on Army joint bases worldwide, with weekly matchups streamed live on the official Army Entertainment Twitch channel.
The highest-performing players from across the online stages will earn a spot in the live finals, which will be hosted at the FaZe Esports HQ at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
Commenting on the tournament’s evolution, GameSquare CEO Justin Kenna stated: “Soldier Showdown has spent seven years proving that gaming is one of the most powerful tools we have for building bonds among the men and women who serve. We’re proud to be producing this program and hosting it from our world-class esports facility.”
Tim Hockenberry, U.S. Army BOSS Program Manager, added that heading into this eighth edition, “the enthusiasm is stronger than ever,” highlighting the value of allowing soldiers to connect and compete beyond the traditional battlefield.
In addition to competitive bragging rights within their units, finalists will compete for an assortment of gear and prizes provided directly by the military retail agency, the Exchange. The tournament’s integration with the U.S. Army MWR (Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation) aims to ensure that the activation aligns with broader lifestyle and recreational support programs deployed across domestic and international installations.
Another competitive gaming initiative towards the U.S. military is the MEL (Military Esports League), organised by August Interactive, which recently closed infrastructure partnerships with SONIX for communications software provisions and with Associated Luxury Hotels International (ALHI) for hospitality solutions.
