G2 Esports is reportedly returning to Europe’s Tier-2 League of Legends (LoL) ecosystem through the formation of a new academy team, potentially in collaboration with NORD Esports.

According to sources from Sheep Esports, a partnership or partial merger with NORD Esports is the leading option being discussed. NORD, which previously fielded former G2 star MarcinJankosJankowski, already operates within the ERL (EMEA Regional Leagues) framework and could provide the necessary infrastructure and roster foundation for G2’s quick re-entry. This deal would potentially allow G2’s academy squad to compete as early as 2026.

NORD has already been competing in ERLs since entering the Northern League of Legends Conference (NLC) in 2023. They’ve racked up consistent results, including multiple top-4 finishes (e.g., 2nd in NLC Winter and Spring 2025, 4th in Summer 2025) and participation in high-profile events like the NNO Cup.

Therefore, G2 could get a boost in competitive foundation and talent pool to build on rather than grinding through qualifiers from scratch. After a solid run at Worlds 2025, where they made it to the Quarterfinals, G2 seems to be turning its attention to building long-term talent to cement its success in the LEC (LoL EMEA Championship).

While discussions are reportedly in the early stages, insiders suggest that the talks as being under “serious consideration.” An official announcement has not yet been made, but further details or potential leaks are expected to surface during the ongoing offseason roster shuffle.
