August Interactive, a gaming and events company, has announced the launch of the Military Esports League, also known as MEL. As per the official announcement, the new professional esports league is designed specifically for active duty service members and military veterans.

The project is being led by experienced esports professionals, including veterans of Dota 2’s top international competitions. August Interactive says that the goal of the Military Esports League is to give military gamers a place to compete at a high level.

The first Military Esports League tournament will take place at the Boeing Center at Tech Port. Teams from different branches of the military will compete in a professional setting, giving players a chance to show their skills while connecting with others who share similar backgrounds.

August Interactive has confirmed that Retired General Joseph Votel joined the effort as a senior advisor. He will help support and guide the league as it prepares for its official launch. The company also formed a Veterans Advisory Committee, which includes respected military leaders, veterans, and active duty service members, to make sure the league stays connected to military values while offering high-quality esports events.

Sarah Kneller, CXO of August Interactive, said, “The Military Esports League represents a new chapter in competitive gaming. We’re creating more than just another esports league – we’re building a community that honors and empowers our military personnel and veterans through the universal language of gaming. August Interactive is revolutionizing gaming by creating experiences that serve both entertainment and social impact.”

August Interactive mentions that they’re building on its existing military gaming programs, including its weekly “Gamers and Guardians” livestreams and tournaments. In May 2026, the company plans to host its first major in-person tournament. This will be the first time sponsored teams made up of active duty and veteran players compete in a large LAN event.
