A French esports production company, One Trick Production (OTP), has shared a detailed look at its financial performance, offering insight into how much money esports broadcasting can generate in France.
In an interview with RFT.GG, OTP revealed that it generated €2.2 million ($2.55 million) in revenue in the 14 months following its foundation in December 2020. It later reached a peak of €4 million ($4.64 million) in 2022. Revenue then dropped to €3 million ($3.48 million) in 2023 before rising again to €3.4 million ($3.94 million) in 2024, showing a 13.6% increase year-on-year.
On the cost side, OTP runs with a small team of eight employees and two executives. Salaries reached €670,000 ($777,200) in 2024, up 30% from the previous year. Including social charges, total payroll costs are close to €1 million ($1.16 million).
The company’s biggest expenses come from external services, which totaled €2 million ($2.32 million) in 2024 and made up more than 60% of its revenue. These include freelancers, technical services, studio rentals, and production tools. OTP relies heavily on outside partners rather than building everything in-house, which allows them to stay flexible.
Despite these costs, OTP has been profitable since it started. From the time it was started until its latest financial report, it has made more than €1 million in total operating profit.
Here’s a clean look at the OTP’s financial figures for 2024 only:
- Revenue: €3.4 million | $3.94 million
- Salaries: €670,000 | $777,200
- Total payroll (approx.): €1 million | $1.16 million
- External services costs: €2 million | $2.32 million
OTP was founded at the end of 2020 by casters Chips and Noi after they left O’Gaming. Chips, whose real name is Fabien Culié, and Noi, whose real name is Charles Lapassat, are famous French esports commentators best known for commentating League of Legends matches.
O’Gaming TV, on the other hand, is a French media company that was created in 2011. It was founded by Chips and Noi along with another popular duo, Pomf and Thud, French shoutcasters who popularised StarCraft II in France. For many years, O’Gaming TV was one of the main platforms for esports broadcasting in France.
However, Chips and Noi left O’Gaming TV in October 2020. The main reason for their departure was a difference in vision. After leaving, they started One Trick Production (OTP), which is now the leading French-language broadcaster for League of Legends, covering events like the EMEA Championship (LEC), the Korean Championship (LCK), and the World Championship (Worlds).
A key part of OTP’s business comes from working for other companies. In addition to its own broadcasts, it earns money by producing esports events, talk shows, and other audiovisual content for third parties. OTP said that it has helped the company maintain steady income beyond the usual esports calendar.
Finally, the company stated that it wants to expand beyond League of Legends. It believes that it has the ability to work on other esports titles and is open to new opportunities.
