The Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) will call Sapporo, Japan home for two more years, as EA and the City of Sapporo confirmed an extended partnership to host the ALGS Championship at the Daiwa House PREMIST DOME. The announcement cements Sapporo’s role as a key hub for Apex Legends esports and signals continued investment in the game’s competitive scene.
“Today marks an important and significant step forward in Sapporo city’s development through esports,” said Katsuhiro Akimoto, Mayor of Sapporo. “For the upcoming two years, we will support the event operation in every way to make the competition even more exciting than the previous one for Sapporo citizens as well as fans around the world.”
The ALGS Year 4 Championship held in Sapporo broke attendance records for the competition, with more than 34,000 fans attending. The Year 5 Championship aims to build on that momentum, with top-tier Apex Legends teams from around the world converging once again in Japan’s northern capital.
EA’s decision to return to Sapporo reflects a wider trend of growth in the Asia Pacific esports market and its ongoing commitment to large-scale, in-person events that foster global community engagement.
“The energy and passion that our fans in Sapporo bring to the ALGS is unmatched,” said Monica Dinsmore, Head of Esports at EA. “As the Apex Legends ecosystem continues to grow, we remain deeply committed to delivering unforgettable live experiences that bring communities together and elevate our competitors on the world stage. We couldn’t think of a better place to host our ALGS Championship for the next two years.”
Apex developers Respawn Entertainment also praised the city and its fans for their support: “Apex Legends’ first stop in Sapporo was an unforgettable event,” said Daniel Suarez, Head of Operations at Respawn Entertainment. “We’re looking forward to bringing the Apex Legends Global Series back to our incredible Japanese community and a beautiful city that has been so supportive of us.”
