Romanian esports production company PGL has announced a major investment of at least $22 million into the Counter-Strike 2 esports ecosystem through a new Tier 1 tournament program planned for 2027 and 2028.
Under the plan, PGL will commit at least $11 million annually which includes prize money, team rewards, and additional financial incentives. The financial structure will include $3 million in prize money for players each year and $3 million in club rewards for teams, both distributed based on event performance. In addition to tournament winnings, PGL will also distribute $5 million annually in team revenue, including $2.2 million in VRS invite bonuses and $2.8 million in viewership incentives.
Starting in 2027, PGL will also provide a comprehensive hospitality and support system for teams. The company will cover travel costs for eight team members per team, provide accommodation in four-star hotels or higher with single rooms for players, and offer dedicated practice rooms that mirror the stage setup.
As per the official details, the 2027 calendar will feature six Tier 1 events. The first event will take place from January 17 to January 24 in the Schengen region, followed by another event from February 13 to February 21, also in the Schengen region. Additional events are scheduled for March 19–28, April 16–25, September 3–12, and October 8–17, with locations yet to be announced.

Silviu Stroie, CEO of PGL, said, “Our biggest commitment yet to Counter-Strike. At least 12 events over 2 years, with a commitment of at least 22 mil USD. Our best offer yet, which I’m pretty sure will be embraced by all the teams, players, and the community. We are now finally able to compete with any other CS2 event out there and will carve our way. All the incentives in our program will attract the best possible CS2 teams and players to participate in our events. Looking forward to delivering more great events to the Counter-Strike community”
PGL also confirmed that they will continue the program in 2028 with another six events, starting with a tournament scheduled for January 14–24 in the Schengen region. The remaining dates and locations for 2028 will be announced later, and PGL said additional Tier 1 events could be added as the Counter-Strike competitive ecosystem continues to grow.
Besides investing heavily in CS2 tournaments, PGL Esports has also locked in a multi-year deal with the city of Cluj-Napoca to keep hosting its flagship Counter-Strike events at BT Arena until 2029. And it’s not just about CS2 either. Chinese developer MOONTON Games has teamed up with the Romania-based tournament organiser to help grow the European Mobile Legends: Bang Bang esports scene.
