British Esports has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Loughborough University, an institution noted for its sports science programmes, to work on shared projects in the esports sector.
The partnership seeks to apply sports science and high-performance frameworks to the UK esports sector.
The agreement, confirmed on 10 February 2026, will see the two organisations develop professional standards, education programmes, and research. The collaboration intends to focus on areas including elite performance pathways, coaching standards, and safeguarding.

Professor Jo Maher, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Sport at Loughborough University, commented on the partnership. “By working closely with the British Esports Federation, we can help shape high-quality pathways, professional standards and inclusive opportunities across the esports ecosystem,” Maher stated.
The partnership will involve the creation of a new Esports Gaming Lab at Loughborough University, part of its DigiLabs development. The facility will contain 40 high-specification gaming machines for use in teaching and research.
Chester King, British Esports President, also provided a statement through a press release. “Together, we can raise professional standards, and foster high-performance talent pathways that support players, coaches and performance staff, and create better education and training opportunities across the sector,” King said.
The agreement links British Esports, which operates the National Esports Performance Campus in Sunderland, with a university that has a history of involvement with traditional sports governing bodies and Olympic preparation.
