The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has launched an official ‘Call for Proposal’ to find commercial promoters and organisers for FIA-sanctioned esports championships.
The public tender aims to identify long-term operational partners to advance the federation’s global sim racing and digital motorsport strategy. By establishing a regulated, accessible competitive framework, the governing body intends to expand international motorsport participation and create sustainable virtual-to-physical development pathways for competitive drivers globally.

Interested operators have until 17 August 2026 to submit their formal documentation to the federation. Submitted proposals are required to detail comprehensive championship concepts, including the overarching tournament format, geographical scope, technical venues for on-site live finals, and a long-term commercial strategy.
Highlighting the strategic shift toward an open procurement model, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, stated that the initiative “marks an important milestone in the development of the FIA’s Esports strategy as we identify opportunities that will support sustainable growth and attract new audiences and competitors”.

FIA Esports Commission President, Niroshan Pereira, added: “Through this initiative, we aim to establish a transparent and ambitious framework that will support the sustainable growth of competitive esports under the FIA umbrella while fostering collaboration across the wider esports ecosystem”.
The open call represents an acceleration of the governing body’s virtual sports integration since formally designating esports as an official discipline in 2023. The regulatory framework was initially tested in 2025 through the FIA MENA Esports Championship, which served as the first virtual tournament fully sanctioned under the International Sporting Code and Appendix E.
This institutional structuring has since expanded across various racing disciplines; the federation integrated digital simulations into the FIA Karting World Championship in 2025 and launched the FIA Esports Global Rally Tour on the Assetto Corsa Rally platform. According to FIA, the rally tournament has drawn over 6,000 drivers from 159 countries ahead of its live multi-regional final stage scheduled for the FIA Awards in Shanghai this December.
