Cryptocurrency trading platform Flipster has announced its inaugural venture into the esports sector by becoming the official crypto exchange partner of TALON‘s Dota 2 team.

This partnership grants Flipster naming rights, with the team set to compete under the moniker “Flipster Talon” for the forthcoming year. The collaboration aims to integrate digital assets into the esports domain, emphasising community engagement, creativity, and inclusivity.

“Esports is one of the most exciting frontiers for Web3 culture to thrive,” stated Youngsun Shin, Head of Product and Partnerships at Flipster. “Through Flipster Talon, we’re creating new ways to connect with a digital-native generation that values openness, creativity, and inclusion—the same values that drive crypto forward.”

The partnership will commence with the Dota 2 roster and plans to introduce co-created content, interactive campaigns, and digital fan experiences. These initiatives are designed to make both cryptocurrency and competitive gaming more accessible to a broader audience.

Sean Zhang, CEO of TALON, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We’re thrilled to welcome Flipster to the TALON family. As innovators in their field, Flipster shares our drive to push boundaries and create richer fan experiences. Together, we’re exploring exciting new ways to bring gaming and crypto culture together.”

This is not the only crypto-esports partnership announced this week, as Riot Games also signed a deal with Coinbase for its League of Legends and Valorant competitive circuits. Following the ‘crypto winter’ around 2022, blockchain-related sponsorships became less common, but these two recent agreements raise questions about a possible resurgence.

However, it  is too early to draw definitive conclusions, particularly as industry sources – including Coinbase itself – have cautioned about the potential for another downturn upcoming in the crypto market.
