NIP Group Inc. has appointed Carl Agren to its board of directors and named him Chief Operating Officer of its Digital Computing Division, which leads the company’s recently launched Bitcoin mining business. The appointment takes effect immediately.
In his new role, Agren will oversee the operational integration of mining assets and develop capabilities for high-performance computing applications, AI workloads, and infrastructure supporting next-generation entertainment platforms. He will be based in Abu Dhabi, where the Digital Computing Division has established its headquarters through a partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office.
Hicham Chahine, Co-CEO of NIP Group, said: “We are pleased to welcome Carl to our Board and leadership team. Carl’s appointment marks an important step in building our digital computing capabilities as we establish our new Abu Dhabi headquarters for this division. His proven leadership in crypto mining, AI and mission-critical infrastructure, combined with strong government partnership support, places NIPG at the unique intersection of esports, gaming, AI, and crypto.”
Agren added: “I am honoured and humbled to join NIPG’s Board and lead the Digital Computing Division from Abu Dhabi. The Emirates is rapidly emerging as a global hub for digital infrastructure, and together we are laying the foundation for high-performance computing that will power AI and next-generation entertainment platforms worldwide.”
Before joining NIP Group, Agren was CEO of Phoenix Technology, where he led the group’s IPO in December 2023, raising around US$370 million and overseeing about 400 MW of crypto mining capacity. He also co-founded G42 Cloud (now Core42), an AI, big data, and cloud company in the Middle East, where he managed the development of 100 MW of data centre capacity.
The appointment of Agren comes one day after NIP Group completed the purchase of crypto mining machines capable of processing 3.11 exahashes per second, marking a new stage in the revenue diversification strategy that sits alongside its activities in gaming and esports.
