RCS Sport, the organiser of the Giro d’Italia, has partnered with NOVO Esports to launch the iconic cycling race within Fortnite.

The project introduces a custom-built gameplay environment designed to promote the 109th edition of the “Corsa Rosa”, with the stated objective of attracting a younger, digitally native demographic. The map features eight stage cities from the official 2026 route, including Naples, Milan, Aosta, and the grand finish in Rome, allowing up to eight players to compete virtually for the Trofeo Senza Fine.

A standout feature of the collaboration is the introduction of a functional bicycle as a means of movement within the map—framed as a first for Fortnite gameplay. Developed in partnership with De Rosa, the official bike supplier of the 2026 Giro, the mechanic allows players to “ride” through paved roads and intermediate checkpoints.

“Entering Fortnite represents a strategic step in the development of the Giro d’Italia’s digital ecosystem,” said Roberto Salamini, Head of Marketing & Communication at RCS Sports. “This initiative allows us to accelerate the brand’s international growth and activate new touchpoints with younger generations.” Emanuele Acerbis, CEO of NOVO Esports, added that the goal was to “create a connection between a parent’s passion and a child’s interests” through the intersection of tradition and innovation.

This initiative draws a parallel with other traditional European sporting events, such as the French Tennis Federation’s (FFT) Roland-Garros eSeries by Renault, tapping into gaming and esports to engage possible new audiences. While the Giro utilises a custom map in Fortnite, the FFT has partnered with Wildlife Studios through 2030 to host its gaming competition on Tennis Clash.

The project will be supported by a physical presence at COMICON Napoli (April–May) and Milan Games Week (November), featuring dedicated gaming stations. To drive engagement, Italian Fortnite creator and cycling enthusiast Riccardo Piz Pizzinelli has been tapped to showcase the experience to his community.

Previously, NOVO Esports also collaborated with the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government on a similar project that involved a custom Fortnite map aimed at promoting the area’s landmarks and culture. Throughout 2025, the organisation became a specialist in collaborations connected to tourism and travel, engaging in alliances with Radisson Hotels, the Saudi Tourism Authority, and international education firm EF – Education First.
