The financial institution TARGOBANK has entered the esports sector for the first time, securing a position as the main partner of fellow German organisation FOKUS. The sponsorship deal, confirmed to span three years, highlights a calculated move for the bank as it seeks to engage with new demographics through competitive gaming.

The partnership signals a strategic expansion of TARGOBANK’s sponsorship activities, which have been historically centred on traditional football. The bank identified the digital reach and cultural resonance of esports as a key rationale for the move. In a statement, TARGOBANK noted the specific synergy with FOKUS’s involvement in EA FC, describing the football simulation title as a “logical complement” to its existing sports marketing portfolio.

The bank maintains a presence in the sport in Germany as a long-term official partner of the DFB-Pokal (the German Football Cup) until at least 2026 and, since the 2023/24 season, as the main shirt sponsor for club Fortuna Düsseldorf

“After long-standing engagement in football, we are expanding our sponsorship into a new, dynamic world,” the bank stated on LinkedIn. “Esports combines performance, team spirit and entertainment with a high digital reach – and thus fits perfectly with the further development of the brand.”

The collaboration will focus on competitive gaming, content creation, and community-driven initiatives. FOKUS, founded in 2018, fields teams in other titles including VALORANT. The organisation reports a combined social media following exceeding 13 million across its various channels. Other sponsors of the team include audio equipment brand JBL through its line Quantum, and assembly materials brand Würth.
