The collegiate esports landscape is set for a significant boost with the announcement of a major scholarship fund aimed at student players. VarsityGG, a platform founded by esports professional Vishal Nathani, has announced it now has over $1 million dollars in available scholarships for students to compete in various esports at universities.

VarsitiGG seeks to bridge the gap between competitive gaming and higher education by providing substantial financial support to aspiring students. VarsityGG is free for players at its core, with a premium subscription available for those seeking enhanced exposure and advanced performance metrics. Universities access the platform through annual subscriptions designed to support recruiting, data-driven decision-making, and program operations.

The platform is scheduled to launch and go fully live on 17th February, with plans to double the amount of available scholarships in the following weeks.

Global Esports Industry Week (GEIW) will return in 2026 with a bigger and bolder edition, taking place across 18–21 June in Cologne, Germany, alongside IEM Cologne. The schedule and details about ticket sales are available in this link.

The initiative is driven by the founder’s personal history within the industry. Nathani explained that his own journey in esports began 15 years ago with the goal of funding his way through college. The new scholarship fund is a direct response to that experience, designed to offer current students the opportunity he wished had been available to him at the time.

“15 years ago, I started my esports adventure in hopes of making money to put myself through college. Today, I’m giving everyone what I wish I had then,” said Nathani, CEO at VarsityGG, in a LinkedIn post. “Let’s help people around the world go to college doing what they love.”

The planned expansion of the fund in the weeks following the launch suggests an aggressive initial strategy to capture a significant share of the emerging collegiate esports market.
