Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is returning as the global brand ambassador for the Esports World Cup 2026 (EWC 26), continuing his partnership with the Esports Foundation after serving in the same role for the 2025 tournament.
The announcement was teased by the Esports World Cup’s official social media account, followed by another post confirming Ronaldo’s return for the 2026 edition.
Ronaldo first became Global Ambassador of the Esports World Cup in June 2025, helping promote the tournament worldwide and connecting traditional sports audiences with competitive gaming. His renewed role is expected to build on that partnership.
As ambassador, Ronaldo is expected to lead global promotional campaigns before and during the tournament, using his worldwide profile and social media following of more than one billion across platforms to introduce new audiences to esports. He is also expected to highlight leading players, clubs, and tournament storylines throughout the competition.
Another possible area of collaboration is in-game content. Ronaldo appeared as a playable character in FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves during EWC 2025, although no new game integrations have been announced for the 2026 tournament.
In an exclusive interview with The Esports Radar last year, Mohammad Al Nimer, Chief Commercial Officer of the Esports Foundation (then Esports World Cup Foundation), revealed that Ronaldo was the organisation’s first choice to represent the tournament because of his global appeal, competitive mindset, and longstanding connection with gaming.
He also pointed to Ronaldo’s previous gaming collaborations, which includes at Garena‘s Free Fire besides at EA Sports, Konami, and his appearance in FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, saying those partnerships made him a natural fit for the Esports World Cup.
Ronaldo has been associated with the Esports World Cup since its early years. He participated in the global launch of the event in 2023, attended the 2024 closing ceremony in Riyadh, and became Global Ambassador in 2025, helping expand the tournament’s global reach.
Further details about Ronaldo’s activities, appearances, and promotional campaigns for Esports World Cup 2026 are expected to be announced by the Esports World Cup Foundation in the coming weeks.
