Tech giant Google and South Asian esports operator NODWIN Gaming have partnered to launch Google Play Arena, a mobile gaming tournament series targeting India’s competitive ecosystem.
The event architecture spans six mobile titles, covering battle royale, MOBA, sports simulation, and strategy genres: Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), Free Fire MAX, Moba Legends: 5v5! (India’s version of Mobile Legends), Real Cricket, Chess (Chess.com), and EA FC Mobile.
The tournament integrates India’s established esports organisations alongside new entry pathways, featuring prominent domestic clubs such as Orangutan, GodLike, Apex Gaming, Revenant XSpark, and Team S8UL.
Unveiled on 23 October 2026, the multi-phase championship features free public registrations and an open grassroots qualification structure, culminating in a live Grand Finale scheduled for 19–20 December 2026.

A central commercial highlight of the initiative is the entry of former Indian national cricket captain MS Dhoni into competitive esports. Dhoni is launching Mahi Clutchers, a newly formed esports club built through the tournament’s open qualifiers, offering amateur players an opportunity to compete under his personal brand banner.
Under the collaborative agreement, NODWIN Gaming will manage end-to-end tournament operations, conceptualisation, partner management, event production, and broadcast execution. The partnership leverages NODWIN’s regional logistics infrastructure and Google Play’s application distribution ecosystem to establish a structured, merit-led competitive pathway across the Indian subcontinent.
Commenting on the initiative, Kanika Kalra, Director of Consumer Apps & Platforms Marketing at Google India, stated that the championship expands Google Play’s long-term commitment to supporting India’s mobile application and gaming ecosystem by providing a national platform for local talent: “India’s mobile gaming ecosystem continues to undergo exciting growth driven by a deeply passionate and strategic community of players, and our goal with this championship is to celebrate this talent on a national stage,” she said.
Akshat Rathee, Co-founder and Managing Director of NODWIN Gaming, added that uniting mainstream sports icons, tier-one domestic clubs, and grassroots open qualifiers reflects the growing cultural scale and audience integration of mobile gaming among young Indian demographics: “India’s gaming community continues to grow in both scale and diversity, with gaming becoming an increasingly important part of how young audiences connect, compete and engage with the interests they share.”
The inclusion of high-profile athletic figures like MS Dhoni aligns with a broader push by NODWIN Gaming to bridge the gap between traditional sports and competitive gaming. The company recently launched NODWIN Sports, a dedicated business vertical focused on building mainstream athletic properties, mass-participation fitness events, and sports advisory operations across India and the Global South.
Google Play’s esports investments are not limited to India. In South Korea, streaming platform SOOP recently held the ASL Season 22 presented by Google Play, its flagship StarCraft: Remastered league, marking the fourth consecutive season Google Play has served as the tournament’s main sponsor since Season 19.
