Independent game studio GOALS has officially unveiled its native competitive esports ecosystem, introducing a structured tournament architecture designed as a gameplay-first alternative to traditional licensed football simulators.

The Stockholm-based developer aims to build a sustainable, skill-based competitive scene from the ground up, prioritising competitive integrity, deep gameplay mechanics, and a spectator-focused broadcast experience for players across all skill tiers.

The newly announced professional circuit is anchored by two primary tournament tiers: GOALS Majors and GOALS Masters. The Majors will operate as year-round online tournaments where the top 500 players on the global leaderboard contend for prestige and qualification points. Meanwhile, the GOALS Masters will serve as the pinnacle offline championship event of the competitive calendar, bringing together the world’s elite players who earn invitations through previous championship finishes or demanding qualifier stages.

According to the studio, the ecosystem focuses heavily on a decentralised structure to empower grassroots community organisers alongside elite professionals. Through the “Host Your Own Cup” initiative, independent tournament organisers and content creators will receive advanced spectator features, tournament creation tools, and official prize pool support featuring in-game packs.

The studio also noted that its infrastructure is heavily backed by “Inclusivity First” development resources, which are specifically targeted at uplifting marginalised communities within gaming to ensure the competitive title remains accessible and representative of a global player base.

The competitive roadmap officially kicks off this summer with the debut of the GOALS Open tournament circuit, which features a $10,000 total cash prize pool. Global registration is scheduled to open on July 20, 2026, leading into Regional Pre-Qualifiers from August 7–9. Top-performing players will advance to the Regional Finals across three distinct global territories—Europe & Africa; Americas; and Asia, Middle East & Pacific—from August 14–16, culminating in the live offline Grand Finals on September 12, 2026, in Stockholm, Sweden.

Founded by former Counter-Strike pro Andreas Thorstensson, the GOALS studio currently operates with an international team of over 70 developers across 20 countries.
