Romanian esports production company PGL has officially announced that they’re stepping into a new area of esports by hosting its first official Geoguessr tournament, called the XMark Media Cup, on December 20 to 21.
PGL also mentioned that 1xBet will be the title partner for the tournament. The betting company has worked with PGL many times before, including as the official betting partner of the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. It also signed a two-year exclusive deal in early 2025 to support PGL’s CS2 and Dota 2 events, and continues to sponsor tournaments such as PGL Astana.
The company says it wants to push competitive gaming into fresh territory with new titles and formats. Geoguessr is a popular online game where players are dropped into a random place on the world map and must guess exactly where they are. They use clues like road signs, buildings, and landscapes, so the game is more about observation and geography than fast reflexes.
While the financial terms of these partnerships haven’t been publicly disclosed, PGL has said that well-known esports players and content creators are expected to take part in this competition in order to try out a competitive style that focuses on real-world details instead of traditional in game mechanics.

The XMark Media Cup will use a double elimination format and all matches will be best of three, with a best of five final. The event will use standard Geoguessr rules, including ten rounds per match, higher damage after round four, and the Move, No Move, and NMPZ modes. Besides the main broadcast, players and creators will also stream their own points of view.
Apart from the upcoming Geoguessr tournament, PGL has recently made several major announcements, such as revealing that Singapore will host the second Counter-Strike 2 Major of 2026, confirming a 1.6 million dollar prize pool for the PGL Astana 2026 CS2 event (up from 1.25 million in 2025), and stating that it has set aside 13 million dollars in prize money for future Dota 2 events over the next three and a half years.
