After the victory of Aurora Gaming PH at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang M7 World Championship, the Senate of the Philippines has announced a new plan to support esports and technology for young Filipinos.

First of all, through Senate Resolution 276, Senator Bam Aquino formally praised the team for its historic victory and specifically highlighted that the Philippines has remained strong in the global Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) scene for seven straight years

During his speech at Plenary Session No. 41, Aquino said the Senate’s action is not only about honoring champions. As chairperson of the Senate committees on education and on science and technology, he announced an integrated development plan for esports and technology.

Under the education committee, Aquino wants esports to be recognised as a tool for learning and character development. Therefore, he is encouraging colleges and universities to offer scholarships for esports players, similar to those given to athletes in sports like basketball. He also talked about esports to become a permanent medal event in the Palarong Pambansa (multi-sport student event in Phillippines) so students can develop skills such as teamwork and strategic thinking in school.

Aquino further revealed that the government will strengthen the country’s Video Game Development Roadmap to help local game developers through incentives and support. The goal is to help the Philippines move from being mainly game players to becoming creators of world class games.

Aquino, who helped set up the Philippine Esports Association, said esports can become a major source of jobs for Filipinos, similar to how the BPO industry created many jobs in the past. He also stated that esports is now being recognised worldwide, including by the International Olympic Committee.

Just a few days ago, the UK’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) announced that esports will get its own official business classification codes for the first time, meaning esports is now formally recognised by the UK government as an industry. Similarly, almost a month ago, Singapore also formally recognised esports and mind sports like chess as sports following the passing of a bill in parliament. At the 2025 Esports World Cup, MLBB publisher MOONTON promoted a panel in which Malaysia and the Philippines shared how the title is being supported as part of their national education strategies
