The British Esports Federation has officially partnered with WorldSkills UK to help young people build careers in esports. As part of the collaboration, they have created a new competition called the Esports Enterprise & Entrepreneurship Challenge, designed to find talented young people and help them grow.
The competition is linked to a course called the Pearson and British Esports Level 3 BTEC National qualification in Esports, which is a specialised vocational programme designed to equip students with skills for the esports industry.
Students taking part will learn how the esports industry works, then come up with their own business ideas. They will also research their target audience, like figuring out who would watch or use their product, and create a proper business plan.
For example, if a team designs an esports app, they would need to explain who will use it, how it will make money, and why it is better than existing apps. Finally, they will present their ideas in a professional pitch, similar to how startups present to investors.
The main goal of this program is to give students real-world experience. Instead of only studying theory, they get to actually apply what they learn, helping them build useful skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving which are important for jobs, apprenticeships, or further studies.
Ben Blackledge, Chief Executive, WorldSkills UK, said, “We’re proud to partner with the British Esports Federation and look forward to previewing the competition at this year’s WorldSkills UK National Finals in November.”
WorldSkills UK, which is known for running national skills competitions, believes this partnership is important because esports is a fast-growing industry. By supporting this field, they aim helping students prepare for future careers that may not have existed a few years ago. Right now, the competition is being tested as a pilot, which means it is still in an early stage. If it works well, it could become a full competition by 2027.
British Esports has been constantly working on its education programs, having recently signed an MoU with Loughborough University in February 2026 to collaborate on esports projects. It is also building a new venue called the British Arena, which will host live music, comedy shows, and esports activities such as training matches.
