Eastern Michigan University (EMU) Esports has announced a new partnership with American esports organisation Citadel Gaming to give students hands-on industry experience, expand internship opportunities, and amplify ties between collegiate and professional esports.
As part of the deal, Citadel Gaming will work alongside EMU Esports student staff to review and improve existing workflows, collaborate on creative projects, and provide students with access to entry-level professional work.
According to the university, around 10 to 15 students are expected to take part in professional-level creative work each year through the partnership. Opportunities will include videography, graphic design, 3D animation, editing, and other digital media disciplines.
Much of this work will be incorporated into existing paid student positions within EMU Esports. Additional project-based opportunities may also be made available to the student body.

The partnership will also see Citadel Gaming support the planning, marketing, and execution of selected esports events hosted on EMU’s campus. Beyond campus events, Citadel Gaming will also take part in community-focused activities, including tournaments, watch parties, and special appearances by professional players and staff.
The initiative is expected to help grow Michigan’s local esports ecosystem while providing students with access to industry experience and professional connections.
Zach Lewis, coordinator of Esports at Eastern, said, “This partnership is a game-changer for our students and our program. We’re creating a direct pipeline between collegiate esports and the professional industry, giving our students real-world experience that strengthens their portfolios and prepares them for careers in gaming, media, and beyond.”
Charlie Harrison, director of operations at Citadel Gaming, said, “At Citadel, our goal is to give EMU real opportunities to compete and gain experience working alongside our staff with content and operations. We see this as a partnership where both sides can build something meaningful, and we’re looking forward to what we can accomplish together.”
Lately, universities have been getting a lot more involved in esports, often partnering with esports organisations to create new opportunities for students. A few months ago, Arizona State University teamed up with Gen.G to help young people turn their passion for esports into real career paths. Before that, King Saud University signed an agreement with Savvy Games Group to give students the skills they need to build careers in gaming and esports.
