The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) has announced the launch of DOSB E-Sports gGmbH, a new company that will handle the organisation’s future involvement in esports.
DOSB E-Sports gGmbH will officially begin its operations on June 1, 2026. According to the organisation, the new company will act as an independent platform to help develop its esports activities in a structured, collaborative and values-driven way.
The organisation said the new company will work together with stakeholders from esports, gaming, sports, politics and society to build national projects and structures that combine performance, values and community.
In its first phase, DOSB E-Sports gGmbH will focus on supporting and coordinating German national teams taking part in selected international esports nation competitions. The company will also work on developing sustainable performance and support systems together with partners from the wider esports ecosystem.
Other priorities include improving connections between organised sports, esports, politics, businesses and gaming communities, along with creating social and value-oriented projects linked to sports and digital culture.
Leon Ries, board member for youth at the DOSB, said, “E-sports and gaming are a natural part of everyday life for millions of young people. As organized sport, we see this as an opportunity to make movement, performance, community and values visible in the digital space and to take responsibility for positive developments together with existing stakeholders.”
Otto Fricke, Chairman of the DOSB Executive Board, said, “With DOSB E-Sports gGmbH, we are creating a structure that connects organized sport with new digital lifestyles. This is not about short-term trends, but about how sport can remain socially relevant and reach young people in the future.” Against the backdrop of the non-profit status for e-sports in club sports, which has been in effect since the beginning of the year, the DOSB, together with its member organizations, will further develop its existing position on the topic of e-sports.
DOSB finally mentioned that the new company is not meant to replace existing esports organisations or structures in Germany. Instead, DOSB E-Sports gGmbH will operate as a platform for cooperation, coordination and national responsibility within the country’s esports ecosystem.
The announcement comes just months after Germany’s federal government took a major step to recognise esports as a non-profit activity. Germany is also set to host several major esports events next month, including a bigger edition of Global Esports Industry Week (GEIW), which will take place alongside the Major-status IEM Cologne Counter-Strike tournament from June 18–21 in Cologne.
