Esports organisation FlyQuest has announced Duel Land, a new event bringing together Magic: The Gathering (MTG) creators and gaming personalities for a weekend of competition and content, scheduled to take place 14–15 June. The initiative marks FlyQuest’s expansion into the trading card game (TCG) space and is being supported by Archidekt, an online deck-building platform, as its exclusive sponsor.

Billed as a “creator-powered Magic: The Gathering showdown”, Duel Land is set to feature will feature Final Fantasy prerelease kits, a special edition in collaboration with the classic RPG game, and will be hosted by esports journalist Travis Gafford and MTG veteran Brian Kibler. In total, eight MTG creators will be paired with eight gaming personalities in cross-community teams.

The winning team will receive a cash prize and a $5,000 donation will be made to the charity of their choice.

To The Esports Radar, FlyQuest CEO Brian Anderson described the project as a strategic move into the TCG sector: “As FlyQuest continues to expand, it’s critical that we find creative ways to reach new communities and potential fans. By expanding into the TCG space, it opens up new sponsorship categories and increases the visibility of all other business ventures FlyQuest is focusing on. The connection between competitive gaming and competitive cards is pretty intuitive, and we believe that our mission to make all gaming better than we found it will resonate across the board,” he said.

Anderson also confirmed that Archidekt is the sole sponsor for this inaugural edition of Duel Land, adding that the event will help FlyQuest explore future opportunities within the space: “we hope to discover new ways to activate it in the future.”

“And on top of it, we love Magic!”, added Anderson. The event will stream live across FlyQuest’s Twitch channels.
