Jeong Ji-hoon, known to League of Legends fans as “Chovy,” the mid laner for Gen.G Esports, has donated 30 million won (roughly $20,000 USD) to support South Korean people struggling through the ongoing summer heatwave.

The Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association, South Korea’s leading disaster relief organisation, announced the donation on the 16th of July. According to the sources, the money will go toward heatwave relief efforts, including handing out summer supplies and heatstroke-prevention items to elderly people, people with disabilities, and other groups who are at greater risk during extreme heat.

Chovy isn’t stopping at a personal donation. He also plans to get his fans involved. At an official fan meeting scheduled for August 2, he will introduce Hope Bridge’s “Cool Summer Day Campaign,” to support heatwave-vulnerable communities. The goal of the campaign is to make fans aware of the difficulties these groups face during hot weather and to encourage them to consider donating or getting involved themselves.

Gen.G player Jeong Ji-hoon (Chovy) said (translated from Korean), “I decided to make a donation to provide some practical support to those who are struggling in their daily lives due to the record-breaking heat. I hope to create a warm time at the upcoming fan meeting where we can share this meaningful purpose and warmth with our fans.”

Shin Hoon, Secretary General of Hope Bridge, stated (translated from Korean), “Athlete Jeong Ji-hoon willingly participates in relief efforts whenever there is a national disaster or difficulties for marginalized neighbors, personally demonstrating the true value of sharing. I was deeply impressed by his sincere efforts to spread a culture of giving by uniting with his fans. We will do our utmost to ensure that the precious donation is fully delivered to vulnerable groups exhausted by the heatwave, helping them get through a safe summer.”

This isn’t the first time Chovy has given to disaster relief efforts. In September 2025, he donated 20 million won (about $13,400 USD) to help people affected by a drought in Gangneung City.

In fact, he has been giving regularly since he became a professional player around 2020. Between Hope Bridge and other channels, his total donations passed 100 million won (about $67,400 USD) by late 2025, enough to qualify him for Hope Bridge’s Honor’s Club, a recognition given to major long-term donors. Several prominent celebrities and artists, such as J-Hope and Jungkook from BTS, actor Byeon Woo Seok, and singer Kim Sejeong, are famously recognised as members of this elite donor group.

Chovy’s donation adds to a growing wave of goodwill across the esports industry, with several other organisations recently using their platform to support charitable causes. About two weeks ago, Team Liquid announced a partnership with sports memorabilia platform MWS (MatchWornShirt) to auction off player jerseys worn during the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026, with net proceeds going to UNICEF to support children’s education, digital inclusion, and humanitarian aid programs.

Around five months ago, Russian organisation Virtus.pro partnered with Gamers Outreach, a nonprofit that supplies video games and gaming equipment to children’s hospitals, to help fund equipment and gaming experiences for kids during long hospital stays.
