The Insomnia Gaming Festival has officially cancelled its i74 event, which was scheduled to take place at the Staffordshire County Showground from April 30 to May 3, 2026.

Despite a year of planning by a new veteran-led consortium, the organizers cited a “wider economic landscape” and a significant decline in investment from major technology and hardware brands as the primary reasons for the collapse.

The cancellation marks a somber end to the festival’s comeback following the 2024 liquidation of its former owner, Player1 Events. The lack of sponsorship meant the organizers could not deliver the standard of “expo floor” experience the community expected.

Global Esports Industry Week (GEIW) will return in 2026 with a bigger and bolder edition, taking place across 18–21 June in Cologne, Germany, alongside IEM Cologne. The schedule and details about ticket sales are available in this link.

The decision to pull the plug was described as “heartbreaking” in communications by the organisation on social media, which included partners Modern Wolf, Emblem Events & Exhibitions, High Viz Media Group, and Protec European Events.

The organisers confirmed that all ticket holders and exhibitors would receive full refunds, with processing already underway to reach accounts within 7 to 10 working days.

In a move of community solidarity, DreamHack has stepped in to offer a 30% discount on tickets for its upcoming Birmingham event later this month to anyone impacted by the Insomnia cancellation.

While the Insomnia Gaming Festival will now “rest” with no immediate plans for a return, the organisation stated it remains hopeful that a healthier sponsorship landscape and renewed industry investment could align in the future to allow for a new beginning.

The cancellation news came in a day when other cancellations and postponements around the world, namely at FISSURE and OffStrike respectively, were also announced.
