Clash of Clans, one of mobile gaming’s most recognisable titles with an active esports scene, is set to expand its universe with an animated series currently in pre-production at Netflix. The move mirrors a growing trend in the games industry, following in the footsteps of Arcane, Riot Games‘ successful adaptation of League of Legends, another title with deep competitive roots.

Developed by Finnish studio Supercell, Clash of Clans and its companion title Clash Royale have been competitive mainstays in mobile esports, supported by official tournaments like the Clash Royale League (CRL), prominent esports organisations like NAVI, and a dedicated global player base. Since their launch in 2012, the games have achieved over four billion downloads and accumulated an estimated 180 billion hours of gameplay worldwide.

Netflix has appointed Fletcher Moules, known for his work on Entergalactic and Agent Elvis, as showrunner. The writing team includes Ron Weiner (Silicon Valley, 30 Rock, Futurama), with animation provided by Vancouver’s ICON Creative Studio. Moules also directed the original Clash of Clans animated shorts.

“Clash has been a global gaming phenomenon for over a decade — filled with humour, action, and unforgettable characters perfect for an animated series adaptation,” said John Derderian, Vice President of Animation Series at Netflix. “Working with the incredible team at Supercell, Fletcher Moules, and Ron Weiner, we’re bringing all the fun, chaos, and spirit of the world of Clash to life in a whole new way.”

This marks another strategic move by Netflix to tap into gaming franchises with established competitive ecosystems. The success of Arcane, which brought League of Legends lore to a mainstream audience and earned critical acclaim, has demonstrated the viability of bridging esports with broader entertainment formats.

Curtis Lelash, Head of Film and TV at Supercell, said: “They’ve been asking for a Clash series forever, and we’re beyond excited to finally say: it’s happening.”

The Clash of Clans series adds to Netflix’s growing slate of animated adaptations of gaming IP, including Devil May CryTekken, and Castlevania. Release details and casting announcements are expected in the coming months.
