Sweden-founded global digital entertainment company Ninjas in Pyjamas (NIP) has confirmed the elimination of several operational esports roles within its Swedish division.
Announced on LinkedIn, the structural cuts finalise an operational reorganisation that first surfaced two months ago. The group clarified that while domestic administrative and backend positions are being terminated to protect long-term corporate “health”, NIP’s competitive esports teams will not be forced to relocate and will maintain their current homebases around the world’s.

“We’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate some operational roles for esports in Sweden,” the announcement read. “At the same time, our esports teams will be staying where they are. NIP Group is well-positioned to continue its growth, with employees and partners around the globe.”
It continued: “Our team members have not been asked to relocate and will continue to have their homebases in the most competitive markets. While change is difficult, we believe it best serves the long-term health of our operations. We appreciate the hard work of all our team members in making NIP Group what it is today.”
The operational downsizing follows reports from early April 2026 indicating that the organisation had issued sweeping redundancy notices to its workforce in Sweden. According to initial investigations by Swedish media outlet Expressen.se, NIP Group intended to transition the vast majority of its central business functions away from Stockholm to Abu Dhabi, a geographical realignment is driven by a landmark five-year, 440 million SEK (~$47.5 million USD) agreement signed with the Emirati government to anchor the company’s international headquarters in the UAE.

The Stockholm facility will be preserved primarily as a localised training site for competitive tournament bootcamps. The report by Expressen.se indicated that management offered its core Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) the possibility of relocating to the United Arab Emirates. However, the players collectively rejected the transfer. NIP Group CEO Hicham Chahine subsequently confirmed that the structural review involved active shifts in corporate functions alongside ongoing legal negotiations with Swedish labor unions.
The finalisation of these layoffs underscores a broader commercial pivot for the legacy brand, which has steadily diversified its business verticals beyond traditional team operations. Since 2025, NIP Group has maintained frequent corporate presence in business headlines due to its growing, capital-intensive investments into alternative digital and financial revenue streams, most notably cryptocurrency and bitcoin mining. Supported by global operations spanning China and Brazil, the company has increasingly relied on international corporate infrastructure to oversee its multinational strategy, including its esports division COO hire Grant Rousseau.
