The Esports Foundation (EF) has officially named Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, the most decorated player in League of Legends history, as a Game Ambassador for both the Esports World Cup (EWC) and the Esports Nations Cup (ENC).
The agreement integrates Faker into the Esports Foundation Ambassador Program through 2028, positioning him alongside global football star Cristiano Ronaldo (Global Ambassador) and chess Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen (Game Ambassador).
According to the Foundation, Faker will will serve as a core voice for esports athletes, engaging with the foundation’s executive teams across global events, player-centric operational initiatives, media footprints, and high-level leadership forums. The multi-year commitment is designed to foster closer institutional ties between active professional competitors, global fans, and tournament organisers.
Faker’s entry into the ambassador pipeline was already a highly visible part of the EWC promotion efforts; his likeness has been integrated into campaigns across Paris, appearing alongside Ronaldo and French Counter-Strike 2 star Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut.

“You can’t talk about esports without mentioning Faker,” said Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation. “As our Game Ambassador, Faker represents something fundamental to the Ambassador Program: esports creates its own global sporting icons. Across EWC, ENC and NGSC, he will help ensure that the players who built this sport have a voice in shaping where it goes next.”
Faker added that joining the program allows him “to continue competing for the biggest titles with T1 while representing the players and fans who have helped esports grow worldwide.” He added that part of his objectives as an Ambassador is “to inspire the next generation to pursue excellence, remain resilient and believe in how far competitive gaming can take them.”
The ambassadorship leverages Faker’s unparalleled competitive career, which boasts six League of Legends World Championship (Worlds) titles, the inaugural EWC 2024 trophy, two Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) titles, and ten domestic LCK (League of Legends Champions Korea) championships with T1.
His status as a cultural icon was further recognised earlier in 2026 when he became the first-ever esports athlete to receive the Blue Dragon Medal—the Republic of Korea’s highest sporting honor—presented to him by South Korean President Lee Jae-myung.
