Esports betting platform Thunderpick has announced that the Thunderpick World Championship (TWC) Finals 2026 will take place at BLAST Studios Malta from 14 to 18 October. The fourth edition of the independent Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) tournament will feature eight international teams competing for a share of a $1 million prize pool.

Produced in collaboration with official data partner GRID and presenting partner Hotspawn, the tournament represents one of the largest prize funds provided by an independent, bookmaker-backed event on the competitive CS2 circuit.

While $1 million prize pools have quickly become the benchmark figures for top-tier tournaments (excluding Majors, which had already featured at least $1 million payouts since 2016), Thunderpick emerged as one of the early adopters in the modern era of Counter-Strike from 2024 onwards. By introducing a $1 million total prize pool (including qualifiers) for the 2024 edition of the TWC, Thunderpick joined pioneering elite events like IEM Katowice in establishing this milestone for third-party tournaments.

Since then, major tournament operators including PGL, ESL FACEIT Group (EFG), and BLAST have committed increasingly significant financial investments across their respective ecosystems. For instance, PGL announced a major commitment of at least $22 million into the CS2 ecosystem across 2027 and 2028, while EFG committed an $11.45 million investment towards CS2 tournament prize pools and club rewards for 2027 alone.

The 2026 lineup will consist of seven teams invited directly via the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) in mid-September, alongside the winner of the global qualifying event. The five-day offline final follows the 2025 event, where Brazilian organisation FURIA secured the title via a 3-2 reverse sweep against NAVI. The competition will be broadcast globally across Twitch, Kick, and YouTube.

“The Thunderpick World Championship has always been about creating the kind of tournament we’d want to watch ourselves,” said Kelly Sanders, Head of Strategy at Thunderpick. “Counter-Strike fans don’t need manufactured hype, they remember incredible matches, impossible comebacks and new stars breaking through. That’s what this championship has delivered over the past four years, and we’re excited to see what story unfolds in Malta this October.”
