On 15 April 2026, the partnership between iGaming platform BetBoom, streamer GustavoBaianoGomes, and the Ilha das Lendas (IDL), announced one day earlier, effectively collapsed and reverted to a “conversations” stage. Riot Games intervened due to a failure to follow required approval procedures for betting sponsorships.

After speaking to Riot, The Esports Radar confirmed that Baiano and IDL reportedly did not adhere to the publisher’s compliance processes introduced less than one year ago. As a result, all communications on the partnership were pushed back by IDL, Baiano, and BetBoom.

The issue seemingly stems from IDL’s role as a major broadcast hub for Riot-owned properties, specifically for League of Legends, including co-streaming of CBLOL (Brazilian League of Legends Championship), LCS (League of Legends Championship Series), and LCK (League of Legends Champions Korea). While the deal was between BetBoom and IDL, not Riot’s league properties, IDL’s content ecosystem is intrinsically tied to Riot’s IP, making any attempt to frame the partnership as unrelated to League of Legends difficult to sustain.

This point was reinforced during TER’s conversations with Riot Games, which highlighted it needs to further investigate how BetBoom will activate in IDL, a partnered channel within its ecosystem. As such, commercial associations—particularly with betting operators—fall under its scope.

Notably, while betting sponsorships are permitted under strict guidelines in EMEA and the Americas, these permissions do not extend universally across all regions or competitions. In practice, this means that channels co-streaming leagues such as the LCK or China’s LPL cannot activate betting partnerships tied to that content.

At present, only two betting partners have been formally approved within Riot’s esports ecosystem: 1xBet, which holds an agreement with MIBR in VALORANT, and Winamax, with its partnerships with G2 Esports in League of Legends and Team Heretics in VALORANT. No other deals, including the proposed BetBoom–IDL collaboration, have received authorisation.

In an official statement provided to The Esports Radar, the global team from Riot Games confirmed it was caught off guard by the news:

“Riot Games was unaware of any potential partnership between Ilha Das Lendas and BetBoom. Following this article’s publication, we reiterated in follow-up communication to IDL and BetBoom that betting operators must first receive the necessary approvals from Riot in order to activate within our esports ecosystem.”

As per learnings by The Esports Radar, IDL, Baiano, or BetBoom will have no sanctions applied by Riot Games at this stage. This stems from the fact that the publisher’s betting partnership guidelines are still being refined. It also helps explain why BetBoom was previously able to partner with the same creators in 2024—communications that have since been removed from Instagram and YouTube. With BetBoom and IDL now effectively walking back the deal, the situation appears to have been reset for the time being.

The deal has now reverted to preliminary discussions and remains subject to Riot’s approval or veto. Following these clarifications, The Esports Radar reached out once more to both IDL and BetBoom for additional comment. No response was received by the time of publication. The story will be updated should further information emerge regarding the status of the agreement.
