The Brazilian branch of French media group Webedia has unveiled the Kick Tournament, a new fighting games competition scheduled to take place in May 2026 in Rio de Janeiro. The event, announced on Friday, 25 July, will feature six titles and a total prize pool of R$120,000 (approximately $21.500).
The debut edition will host tournaments in Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Brawlhalla, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. According to Webedia Brasil COO Thiago Leme, the Kick Tournament is designed as a multi-title competition that aims to bring the local Fighting Games Community (FGC) together, rather than focusing on professionalisation. “What we are looking to do is not professionalise the FGC, but pull everyone together with us,” Leme stated.
The decision to host the event in Rio de Janeiro stems from a perceived lack of local, in-person fighting games events. While competitive in nature, the event is also set to feature various on-site activities, including activations and retro gaming experiences through partner Retrocon. “There will also be space for visitors to bring their own competitions,” added Leme, highlighting a community-driven approach.
Prize distribution will depend on the number of registered players in each game. A preview event with competitions in Street Fighter 6 and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will take place from 26 to 28 July at Retrocon’s own event, held at the Transamérica Expo Center, one of the main venues for conferences and fairs in São Paulo.
“If the Kick is successful, we have no doubt that we’ll expand to more games in the second year,” Leme concluded.
