Esports has taken centre stage at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, where a new exhibition recognises competitive gaming as part of the future of sport.

The temporary exhibition, Ahead of the Curve, opened on 18 September and explores how innovation has influenced the Olympic Games. Among its four main themes — the evolution of the sports programme, innovations in broadcasting, advances in refereeing, and the rise of esports — the inclusion of digital competition reflects its growing role in global sporting culture.

“Ahead of the Curve invites visitors to travel through time, reflect on innovation in sport, and reconnect with moments that continue to inspire and spark nostalgia,” said Olympic Museum Director Angelita Teo in a LinkedIn post.

The exhibition forms part of a broader effort to examine how sport continually reinvents itself. It runs alongside Via Azzurra, a temporary extension highlighting the legacy of Italy’s Olympic history.
