Romanian esports tournament organiser PGL has confirmed its complete operational calendar for the 2028 Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) season, finalising dates for six Tier 1 events.

The announcement completes the schedule rollout for PGL’s two-year Tier 1 Programme spanning 2027 and 2028, representing a minimum cumulative investment of $22m to provide long-term planning visibility for professional teams, broadcast partners, and commercial sponsors.

The locked 2028 calendar comprises six primary competition windows across the year: One from 14 to 24 January, followed by a second event from 9 to 21 February, a third one from 23 March to 3 April, another one from 19 April to 1 May, a fifth event from 31 August to 11 September, and a last event from 4 to 16 October.

By establishing exact tournament windows nearly two years in advance, PGL aims to offer stability within the open tournament circuit following Valve‘s regulatory transitions. All six tournaments will utilise PGL’s established LAN competition format, structured to closely mirror Valve Regional Standings (VRS) Major qualification standards. In addition to locking in dates, PGL is actively evaluating potential host city partnerships to expand international destination hosting, offering host municipalities global media exposure and tourism revenue generated by visiting teams and international fans.

Under the $11m annual financial allocation for 2028, PGL has established a multi-tiered revenue framework dividing funds across direct competitive performance and ecosystem contribution. Each annual cycle allocates $3m in direct player prize money alongside $3m in Club Share performance pools distributed across participating organisations.

Beyond base event earnings, the financial model incorporates $5m annually in additional team revenue, comprising $2.2m in VRS Invite Bonuses for top-ranked squads accepting tournament invitations and a $2.8m Annual Viewership Incentive pool.

The viewership incentive evaluates concurrent viewership (CCV) metrics across the top 16 performing teams annually, multiplying accumulated points by the number of PGL events attended to reward organisations that actively drive fan engagement.

PGL’s Tier 1 Programme also mandates elevated hospitality and operational standards, covering travel expenses for eight team members per roster, four-star or higher single-room hotel accommodations, dedicated stage-mirroring practice environments, and a strict scheduling ceiling of one best-of-three match per team per day.

The long-term tournament pipeline is anchored by PGL’s expanded commercial portfolio, which includes an extended deal with betting operator 1xBet and a data partnership with esports technology developer Runestone, both running through 2029. Both agreements cover PGL’s CS2 and Dota 2 circuits, alongside major publisher-sanctioned tournaments such as the upcoming PGL Major Singapore 2026.
