IndexG Esports and SportsBiz Africa will launch the SBA Esports Cup on 7 September in Kigali, Rwanda, ahead of the SportsBiz Africa Forum 2025.

The tournament will feature eight professional players from across the continent, including representatives from Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan and the host nation Rwanda. Competitors will play EA FC 25 on PlayStation 5 for a $5,000 prize pool, with matches streamed live on IndexG Esports’ YouTube channel.

Organisers say the event is intended to showcase Africa’s talent and highlight the need for a licensed regional circuit sanctioned by EA Sports.

“EA FC is the most popular esports title in Africa. But the lack of servers has made it difficult for African gamers to qualify for the major EA Sports FC Pro competitions. What we are starting is a showcase… We hope to convince the publisher to establish an African circuit,” said IndexG Chairman Ronny Lusigi in a press release.

SportsBiz Africa added that the Cup aims to “create visibility for African gamers” and connect the region to the global esports ecosystem.

The competition will precede the SportsBiz Africa Forum 2025 (9–10 September), which will feature a panel on esports’ role in Africa’s wider sports economy.
