South Korean live streaming platform SOOP has expanded its esports partnership with Google Play by extending their collaboration to the FC Online Super Champions League (FSL), the region’s top-tier esports tournament for EA FC Online.
Starting this season, Google Play will serve as an official sponsor of FSL, the FC Online esports league hosted and organised by Nexon and operated by SOOP. The league is regarded as the leading FC Online esports competition in South Korea, featuring many of the country’s top organisations and players.
The new FSL season began with a group draw ceremony on Monday, July 29, at the Jamsil DN Colosseum. The competition will conclude with the grand final on September 6, when the season champion will be crowned.
The Google Play ASL Season 22 finals will be held at the Lotte World Ice Garden in Jamsil. According to SOOP, the event is being planned on a larger scale than previous editions and will take place in a bigger venue to provide spectators with better live viewing experience.
Google Play has previously partnered with SOOP as the title sponsor of Google Play ASL Season 20 and Google Play ASL Season 21, continuing its support for StarCraft esports. The Season 21 Finals, held last May at KINTEX in Ilsan during the PlayX4 event, drew a crowd of about 1,500 esports fans, and all 500 official seats sold out within seconds of ticket sales opening, according to figures shared by ASL host and streamer Soop.
The expanded sponsorship represents a step up at the partnership between SOOP and Google Play, extending beyond StarCraft esports to include FC Online. SOOP currently operates several in-house esports leagues, including ASL, GSL, and FSL. The company said it plans to continue working with Google Play to support the growth of South Korea’s domestic esports ecosystem.
The Google Play expansion follows several other partnership announcements from SOOP. In recent weeks, the company extended its deal with Gen.G until 2028, while a few months ago it also continued its strategic partnership with BNK FEARX (BFX), which competes in League of Legends and FC Online.
