The Ukrainian Esports Federation (UESF) has handed one-year bans to several prominent Ukrainian esports players, including Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) stars Oleksandr s1mple Kostyliev and Myroslav zont1x Plakhotia, for competing alongside Russian players in official matches.

The federation approved an updated Disciplinary Liability Policy in Esports on June 8, 2026, before publicly releasing the document and an accompanying list of restricted players between June 25 and June 27. Most of the newly issued restrictions are effective until June 30, 2027.

The updated policy outlines how the federation identifies disciplinary violations, applies sanctions, and maintains a public restricted list of players and officials. It applies to players, coaches, managers, referees, tournament organisers, and other participants involved in UESF-organised, supported, or sanctioned competitions.

According to the official restricted list, s1mple received a 12-month suspension until June 30, 2027, for participating in official matches on the same team as Russian player Denis electroNic Sharipov while representing BC.Game. The federation classified the case under its ethical violations category, which prohibits knowingly competing alongside representatives of Russia.

Following the announcement, s1mple publicly criticised the federation’s decision. He said on his X account, “Double standards for other players. The people who made this decision understand nothing about esport and have done nothing for it, so their opinion is worthless.”

Similarly, zont1x was banned until June 30, 2027, for competing as part of Team Spirit, whose roster includes Russian players.

The updated framework states that participation in official matches alongside Russian players constitutes an ethical violation when there is a conscious choice to do so. However, it also clarifies that playing against Russian representatives in tournaments where such matchups are technically unavoidable is not considered a violation. The policy also allows sanctions to be renewed or extended if players commit the same violation again.

Besides s1mple and zont1x, several other players received one-year restrictions for competing alongside Russian teammates. CS2 player Danylo s1zzi Vinnyk was also suspended until June 30, 2027, due to previous involvement with Spirit Academy or similar team associations.

Some cases include multiple violations. For example, Bogdan bodyaN Goncharov was cited for both playing with Russian teammates and additional offenses such as match-fixing and cheating, while Danyyl Sdaim Tupov was also listed for anti-Ukrainian statements.

The bans apply only to UESF-organised tournaments and competitions where the federation or its members act as organisers, partners, or supporters. Restricted players also lose access to federation support and cannot represent Ukraine in national team events.

However, the sanctions do not affect participation in major international tournaments operated by organisers such as ESL FACEIT Group, BLAST, or PGL. Likewise, they do not impact existing contracts with organisations including BC.Game or Team Spirit.

As a result, the practical impact on the careers of top-tier professional players is expected to be limited, with the restrictions primarily affecting domestic competition and national team eligibility.
