Argentine tournament operator FiReSPORTS has detailed the negotiation process and operational framework behind securing hosting rights for the Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) Major in Buenos Aires, scheduled for mid-2027.

Speaking to Dust2 Brasil, owned by HLTV.org, FiReSPORTS Chief Executive Officer Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes outlined how the company engaged directly with key Valve officials Brian Levinthal and Ido Magal, moving beyond established tier-one tournament operators to bring South America its second CS2 Major.

The selection process originated in 2022 following FiRe’s activation at Barcelona’s Camp Nou, the FiReLEAGUE 2022: Global Finals, which prompted Valve executives to invite the organiser into the hosting pool for the 2027 and 2028 Major cycles. After initial submission of a 125-page operational pitch document seeking to establish a track record for Valve to trust the company, the publisher instructed FiRe to distil its proposition down to 25 pages.

To demonstrate operational innovation beyond conventional stadium builds, FiRe staged a LAN tournament at a subway station, the FiReLEAGUE Buenos Aires 2025, securing official confirmation for the 2027 Major on 9 June 2025 during the BLAST.tv Austin Major. According to Figueroa, Valve sought to diversify its tournament operator portfolio beyond the dominant trio of global operators, placing confidence in FiRe’s local execution and creative approach.

The 2027 Major will utilise a dual-venue structure in Buenos Aires. Preliminary stages will take place at the cultural center Usina del Arte, featuring two auditoriums equipped with face-to-face team booths and dedicated co-streaming stages. The main stage final four days will be hosted at the 15,000-capacity Movistar Arena (14,000 public tickets and 1,000 guest allocations), which has already reached 60 per cent ticket sales. Addressing domestic fan feedback regarding ticket costs, Figueroa noted that peak ticket packages capped at $700 for the full four-day finals represent the lowest pricing tier for any Major in CS history, compared to European benchmarks exceeding $1,200.

The event’s operational viability is underwritten by strategic support from the City of Buenos Aires. To prevent public backlash surrounding direct municipal cash subsidies for esports, the city administration provided non-monetary institutional backing, including three weeks of exclusive access to Usina del Arte and public infrastructure permits for city-wide activations. A confirmed commercial partner for the FiReMAJOR 2027 is the data technology company Runestone.

To guarantee competitive integrity and broadcast delivery, FiRe is combining its 20-person local team with 27 European industry specialists, including observers and tournament administrators with multi-Major experience. Regarding commercial revenue sharing, Figueroa indicated that tournament operators anticipate Valve will refine in-game sticker revenue distribution models during upcoming ecosystem meetings around the Singapore Major.

Following the 2027 Major, FiRe told Dust2 Brasil it plans to establish itself as a permanent tier-one tournament operator. The company’s long-term commercial strategy includes hosting an annual $1m flagship tournament in Latin America or Spain, supported by four $250,000 regional events across South America, North America, Europe, and Asia, alongside maintaining its established Last Chance Qualifier framework.
