The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) has announced the return of its esports tournament, Wimbledon eChamps presented by American Express, set to run from 9 June to 19 July 2025. Now in its second year, the event is produced by esports tournament organiser BLAST.
This year’s edition introduces a new platform to the format with the addition of mobile title Tennis Clash, joining PS5 game TopSpin 2K25. The expansion aims to broaden accessibility and participation, with two separate champions to be crowned—one for each title.
BLAST, which oversees the tournament’s production, collaborates with top-tier publishers and brands to deliver esports events on a global scale. Its involvement hints convergence of traditional sport and the wider industry of competitive gaming.
Shiz Suzuki, Vice President of Global Brand Sponsorships and Experiential Marketing at American Express, commented: “Tennis and sports gaming are huge passions of our Cardmembers globally, so it’s important for Amex to continue to show up where they are. We’re thrilled to continue partnering with the AELTC as they expand the Wimbledon eChamps tournament this year.”
Usama Al-Qassab, Marketing & Commercial Director at the All England Club, noted the impact of last year’s inaugural event: “Thanks to the ongoing support of our official partner American Express, we are proud to bring the Wimbledon eChamps back for a second year. The addition of the Tennis Clash mobile game means we can give more members of the gaming community the opportunity to qualify for the in-person finals.”
The competition will unfold across two stages. The qualifying stage begins on 9 June, allowing eligible players from the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Canada, and the United States to compete via their respective platforms. Tennis Clash players can enter directly through the game, while TopSpin 2K25 participants must hold a PS Plus subscription and access the competition via PlayStation Tournaments. Top performers from each title will progress to the finals, which will take place in person at the All England Club on 18 and 19 July.
